Delete your account

The current account deletion process, limitations and contact route.

Effective date: 2026-10-20

Deleting the app does not delete your The Quest account. Account deletion is permanent and starts inside the app.

1. Confirm your identity

Open Profile, then Settings, then the account deletion action near the bottom. Read the confirmation and choose Continue.

For an email/password account, enter your current password. For Google, confirm the same Google account. For Apple, confirm the same Apple account; the app uses the fresh authorization code to revoke Apple's authorization through Firebase before requesting deletion. Apple confirmation is also required when Apple is linked to another sign-in method. Cancelling a provider prompt does not request deletion. Required provider configuration must be active in the released app.

2. What happens next

The server records a deletion job for your authenticated account. After the request is accepted, the app removes that saved session and may switch to another account already saved on your device. Server cleanup continues if you close the app or lose connection.

The deletion job prevents new ordinary app writes from that account. The server-side deletion process disables authentication and removes the public profile, friend presence and the account-associated data described below. Cleanup may require additional passes to account for requests that were already running. Processing can take longer because of data volume, delivery delays or retries. The adopted completion period and escalation process are: Without undue delay. For requests subject to GDPR, we provide information on action taken within one month of receipt. If necessary because of complexity or the number of requests, this response period may be extended by up to two further months; we explain the extension and reasons within the initial month. This is not an automatic extension or a general permission to delay erasure. Lawful retention exceptions and provider recovery-copy cycles are explained separately. Contact app.thequest@gmail.com if assistance is needed.

3. Data removed or anonymized

The cleanup covers the account's Firebase Authentication record, its user document and nested game/settings/support/story records, its own uploaded photos, videos and preview images under its Storage folder, Personal Moments and their nested interactions, its likes and comments on other posts, friend/follow references, story interactions, league participant records, top-level feedback and known notification/profile-cache references. Current and versioned objects under the account's Storage prefix are requested for deletion; provider soft-delete or backup retention is a separate process.

In a shared quest, the deleted account's photos, captions attributable to it, comments, likes, membership and profile snapshots are removed. Other participants' photographs, comments, account progress and earned balances remain. A completed shared memory may remain for surviving participants without the deleted account's identity. Related unfinished shared quests are cancelled rather than automatically completed or rewarded.

Referral counterparty identifiers are removed or replaced with anonymous ledger entries while preserving another player's already-earned balance. A minimal server-only deletion marker is retained to prevent old sessions from recreating data; it becomes eligible for automatic TTL cleanup 24 hours after completion. TTL processing is asynchronous and may run later. No password, Apple authorization code or OAuth token is stored in this marker.

4. Remaining copies and privacy requests

Previously delivered notifications, screenshots and copies independently made by other people cannot necessarily be recalled. Analytics, diagnostic records, legal retention and backups require their separate retention/erasure processes; the account button is not a promise of instant deletion from every provider backup or log. Backup/restore policy: Firestore scheduled backups and point-in-time recovery are not enabled. Firestore retains historical versions for approximately one hour. In the app media Storage bucket, soft-deleted objects are recoverable for seven days and Object Versioning is disabled. Provider-managed recovery copies and service-specific deletion cycles are separate from live-data deletion. Support and feedback retention where not erased under a valid request: 12 months after the last support interaction, unless longer retention is legally required. See the Privacy Policy.

If you cannot access the app or a request fails, email app.thequest@gmail.com with the subject “The Quest account deletion”, your account email or username and sign-in method. We may verify ownership proportionately. Never send your password, an Apple/Google verification code or a private key. Email is an assistance route; normal deletion should be initiated in the app.

5. Apple subscriptions and your original media

Account deletion does not cancel an Apple subscription or initiate a refund. Manage subscriptions separately through your Apple account. Deleting uploaded app photos or videos does not delete originals from your iPhone or iCloud Photos library, or another user's independent copies. Temporary working files on a device and provider recovery copies follow their separate lifecycle; account deletion is not a remote wipe of your device. For purchase issues, contact Support.
